DMEPOS Billing Workshop: Maintaining Compliance with the Medicare Program

Aug-Mon-09-2010
9:00am - 5:00pm EST

Whether you’re looking to reduce the number of audits you are receiving or need to stay up to date on current documentation requirements for various DME, this DMEPOS billing workshop is for you! Both seasoned billers and new trainees will benefit from this course, as Andrea Stark lays the foundation for continued compliance with the Medicare program, and provides updates on recent policy changes and claims edits.

Join Andrea Stark for this all-day seminar where you will learn about:

  • Medicare Entitlement Basics: Andrea will start off the course by discussing some basic Medicare entitlement and payment information. Topics covered during the section include current co-pays and deductibles, the differences between participating and non-participating providers, and how to file with or without assignment. Andrea will also discuss which physicians and non-physician practitioners may order or refer DME and provide updates on PECOS enrollment requirements. This section will serve as a refresher for current billers and help quickly bring trainees up to speed.
  • Documentation & Signature Requirements: Next, Andrea will help you ensure that you have the documentation you need to support your claims in the event of an audit. This section will cover which information you need to obtain prior to delivery and in which cases prescriptions, verbal orders, CMNs, DIFs and WOPDs are required. This information will be followed by segment on how to get the most out of using an ABN, including when to use an ABN and under what circumstances an ABN is prohibited. The segment will be concluded with a discussion on Medicare’s legible physician signature requirement, and what constitutes an acceptable vs. unacceptable signature.
  • Coverage Criteria: Once general requirements have been covered, Andrea will move on to more specific reimbursement issues and discuss Medicare’s current coverage criteria for various DMEPOS categories, including: Enteral Nutrition, P & O Repairs, Respiratory (Oxygen, CPAPs, Bi-Levels), Compression Stockings, Diabetic Supplies &  Therapeutic Shoes, Breast Prostheses, Lymphedema Pumps, Support Surfaces & Hospital Beds , Knee Ankle Foot Orthotics, Mobility (Wheelchair, Accessories, Seat Lifts), Spinal Orthoses, Bedside Commodes, Suction Pumps, TENS, Tracheostomy Supplies & Ventilators.
  • Billing Procedures: The fourth segment of this course will focus on claims filing and billing procedures. For trainees, Andrea will start with a tutorial on how to appropriately fill out and submit a claim. For seasoned billers, examples will be provided of common billing errors that often result in payment delays, and Andrea will include tips on how to ensure potential rejections are caught before claims are submitted. Finally, billers of all expertise levels will benefit from learning about ways to utilize technology to improve efficiencies and reduce paperwork burdens.
  • Responding to Audits: Andrea will close the course with a discussion on the latest CERT, DME MAC and RAC audit triggers, and how to avoid them. You’ll learn what these contractors are looking for when reviewing claims, what to expect during an audit and how to respond effectively.

Because much of the value derived from attending a workshop is the ability to interact with the presenter and ask questions, this event is only being offered as a live, on-site seminar. Time will be allotted for breaks and lunch, and attendees will have the ability to ask Andrea questions in person throughout the course.

Who should attend: DMEPOS billing staff, accounts receivable staff, billing managers and office managers.

Registration Includes: Seminar attendance, hard copies of the exact materials used by Andrea during the seminar, morning refreshments and lunch.

The seminar will be held in the conference room of the Atrium building, located at 140 Stoneridge Dr., Columbia, SC, 29211. To look up driving directions, click here.

Overnight guests may wish to stay at the Embassy Suites Hotel. The hotel is located within 10 minutes of the Columbia airport and is within 2 minutes of the seminar location.

Aug-Thu-19-2010
2:00pm - 2:45pm EST

Do you find yourself having trouble collecting from patients? Are you tired of chasing down payments? Your front-end could be the reason patient AR is balooning. • How to measure collection momentum and ensure productivity.

Finally, Andrea will conclude the event by providing you with the tools you need to evaluate a patient’s risk when credit must be extended:

Can You Really Do That? Debunking Medicare Myths

Sep-Thu-02-2010
2:00pm - 3:00pm EST

We’ve all heard stories, we’ve all had questions. We’ve even seen competitors push the envelope – are they wrong or just ambitious? Is it possible we are being too cautious to our own detriment?

This webinar will set out to distinguish the difference between Medicare myths and reality. Participants will learn what is really acceptable under Medicare guidelines and will have the opportunity to get their own Medicare myths debunked. Planning to participate in this event and have your own “Is this allowed?” myth to debunk? Click here to send it to us and have it included in the webinar (questions sent will be answered during the event on a first-come, first-serve basis).

Current topics to be discussed include:

  • Can we get a valid ABN without a patient signature?
  • Does the physician always have to be the one who completes the CMN?
  • Can we collect cash from the patient up-front and still accept assignment?
  • If Medicare will pay for an item, can I still offer it at a retail only level?

This webinar will last approximately 1 hour. An interactive question and answer period will  follow the session.
